Politics ultimately led me from running local and state campaigns in South Carolina to working for Congress on Capitol Hill. I’ve had some magnificent opportunities to work for top organizations in the country; however, real estate is my calling – it’s in my DNA. Helping people with their housing decisions is my passion and I count it a privilege.
I’ve always been interested in campaigns and people. From a PR firm in Greenville, South Carolina to a congressional committee in Washington, DC to a national trade association for the biopharmaceutical industry in the nation’s capital to now impacting Virginia, DC & Maryland clients’ buying and selling decisions for the largest transactions in their lives – I have had quite an extraordinary professional journey.
Yet, my life had a more humbling beginning. I grew up on a 35-acre farm in Orangeburg, South Carolina, surrounded by a horse, dogs, cats, and dozens of chickens, ducks, geese, and guineas. Oftentimes I long for the simplicity of that era.
I inherited a specific gene from my dad: a fearless enjoyment of work. And I don’t know anyone who could outwork him. A lot of my childhood up to when I left for college was spent building houses, sheetrocking churches and painting apartments.
When I went to college, my love for working with people led me to major in public relations. By some chance, I got involved as a volunteer for a local campaign, which turned into me managing my brother’s campaign for the state legislature (we won!).
After college, I joined a public relations firm and ran more political campaigns at the local and state level. I got some exposure in a presidential campaign, but by the time I was 24, I craved a larger pond and felt it was time to take the next step in politics: Capitol Hill.
In April 2000 I landed a job on Capitol Hill as the Deputy Communications Director for the House Energy & Commerce Committee. As a media guy, one of my first forays in the job involved breaking and managing what would eventually be an international story: our committee investigators launched an investigation into Ford Motor Company and Firestone Tire because of tire blowouts and subsequent rollovers.
When my wife, Cassie, and I had our first child in September 2003, the financial impact of our new child and other responsibilities began to weigh on us. The idea of becoming a REALTOR ® took shape and, in 2004, I was licensed in Virginia.
Over the next four years, our family expanded with two more kids. In 2005, I left the Hill to work in a public affairs role for the biopharmaceutical industry. My dual career in real estate was coming along smoothly and over the next 17 years, as my career progressed, I honed my business, marketing and advocacy skills and eventually traded out my public affairs role for a full-time career in real estate.
Looking back, I’ve been so privileged to be a part of our nation’s history and the development of the region’s real estate landscape. I am so thankful for my heritage, an engrained work ethic and integrity passed down from my parents. I have learned the value of never quitting and I’m hopeful that my kids pick it up and continue the tradition.
When not working, my wife and I are often engaged at our church or our kids’ schools. I love to travel and had the opportunity to go overseas with my pastors to help some of our church’s missionaries in Albania and England. I’m actively engaged in local organizations and am a member of the Manassas Rotary.
I have had so many life experiences, survived a few near-death situations and been given numerous second chances at life. I am thankful for what my God has done for me and am thankful for those of you who support both my business goals and my desire to give back to the community.
Status quo is a terrible norm to follow. With around 75% of agents doing little to no business, it's clear to me that following their approach isn’t the path I want to take.
My business ranks in the top 10% in the country because I am committed to meeting my clients’ needs with unparalleled service. I genuinely enjoy supporting my clients during such momentous times in their lives. Selling a home often marks the end of a life chapter, while buying a home is a new beginning.
While my primary specialty is in residential real estate, as an investor, I also help investors build their portfolio by finding properties that match their investment goals. With construction in my background, I can generally tell if a property is well-built or if there are major concerns to consider. I excel in marketing homes while placing great importance on high-quality materials to showcase each property to targeted, qualified audiences.
I’d be honored to discuss working with you, whether you are starting out or closing out a life chapter.
Sincerely,
Jon Tripp
